Canton is a city in Fillmore County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 346 at the 2010 census.[1]

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 500 people, 437 households, and 94 families residing in the city. The population density was 341.9 people per square mile (132.4/km²). There were 171 housing units at an average density of 170.4 per square mile (66.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 100.00% White. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.29% of the population.

There were 157 households out of which 27.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.9% were married couples living together, 9.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.5% were non-families. 33.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.18 and the average family size was 2.79.

In the city the population was spread out with 21.9% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 25.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 86.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $23,409, and the median income for a family was $25,972. Males had a median income of $22,917 versus $21,000 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,373.
